CIMERA® - microsandwich composites for demanding applications
CIMERA® is a family of microsandwich composite materials built around MILLIFOAM® thin-core foam. By combining a precisely cut foam core with thin skin layers, metal, polymer, or fiber, CIMERA® achieves bending stiffness-to-weight ratios that monolithic materials cannot reach at equivalent thickness.
The material is configurable: skin layer material, core grade, and layer dimensions are selected per application. The same sandwich principle covers acoustic membranes in consumer electronics at 0.12 mm total thickness and structural panels in aerospace transport containers at several millimeters.
Where CIMERA® is used
Acoustics
CIMERA® acoustic laminates stiffen speaker membranes in smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The sandwich construction raises the break-up frequency and reduces moving mass, enabling better audio performance within shrinking device geometries. In serial production since 2005.

Lightweight Structures
CIMERA® fiber panels replace monolithic CFRP and GFRP in thin-walled structural components, with up to 60% weight reduction at equivalent bending stiffness. Used in pharmaceutical air freight containers by Envirotainer.
Material configurations
CIMERA® is produced in three configurations depending on the required skin layer material. Core material, layer thicknesses, and adhesive systems are specified per project across all three.
