A structural back panel previously manufactured from 1.2 mm aluminum sheet was replaced with a CIMERA® metal sandwich of identical total thickness. Skin layers: 0.12 mm steel. Core: MILLIFOAM®.
The part met all mechanical requirements at lower weight, with no tooling investment and no change to the manufacturing process.
